Why Agile Ball?
Agile Ball is an innovative concept, designed by Jon Steele and Jack Collins. The aim was to design a training exercise that would replicate the Agile development cycle in real time. There are several key features of the Agile Ball Retreat that helps to make it unique. A company could train its employees in all the Agile related activities with a single Retreat, whereas the Agile software development process could be divided between the internal teams using Agile Scrum, leading to a parallel effort between teams.
Agile Ball is a series of twenty four short Agile Retrospective videos, which show the full scope of the Agile software development life cycle. All the activities from conception to release are outlined step-by-step. Each video also has a corresponding image. The overall view is that of Agile developers working on an Agile project. They are using visual modeling tools to model the business problem, the stakeholders, and the Agile tool chain, and they are continuously improving their techniques as the project progresses.
These videos are intended for all the Scrum team members. The video description states that "an agile team member is exposed to (and thus plays) an active role in creating a product through on-going agile efforts". In other words, Agile Ball must be used by all the teams. A group of Agile Ball videos would enable each team member to understand Agile better and become more productive.
Each team member should use the ball during their regular rounds at work. The idea is that it helps them remember Agile concepts, get into the mode, and perform better. Agile is about continuous improvement. Therefore, when every team member takes part in Agile projects, teams tend to deliver higher quality products, with increased efficiency. This is possible because Agile projects allow for regular retrospectives. A team should have a sprint planning meeting, and schedule a retrospectives after every sprint. In addition, each sprint should include a retrospectives. The retrospective sprint is a summary of what happened in the prior sprint, what was implemented, what failed, and what worked. During the Agile Retrospective Sprint, each team member should take notes, discuss with colleagues, and determine how the prior Agile effort can be leveraged to enhance their current Agile effort.
Agile is based upon continuous improvement, which is a continual process of finding new ways to achieve the same result. Agile Ball is a valuable tool that enhances Agile deployment. It provides teams with visual cues to identify which Agile principles they should apply to their activities. The Agile Project Team Building Retreat is a series of online seminars designed to enhance Agile development teams' effectiveness and efficiency. To date, there are a number of workshops that address this topic, including the following:
